Roy “Bud” Moore enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 (Seaman First Class). He served on the USS Guadalcanal and the Coral Sea as part of an anti-submarine tactical force. Interviewed by Brian Grubbs on September 27, 2006, Moore talked about his military experiences during the Second World War. Moore was born on March 3, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas. He enlisted in the Navy on March 25, 1943, and attended basic training in Farragut, Idaho. He spent most of his service patrolling the North and Northeast Atlantic Ocean for submarines. He was on board the USS Guadalcanal when they captured a German submarine, the U-Boat 505, which is now at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Moore was discharged in 1950. He passed away on June 5, 2009.
