The Watkins Museum of History is honored to partner with the Lawrence Public Library on Digital Douglas County History, a history portal for Douglas County, Kansas. Historical materials shed light on the beliefs, struggles, and values of our community and bring us to a better understanding of life in the past. However, they provide more than just a view of how things used to be. Understanding the past can help us navigate the present and shape the future--offering examples to guide our decisions and inspiring us with stories of the actions of our forebears. With this portal bringing together the old and the new, the latest digital technologies will help us make materials from Douglas County’s rich and varied history available to as broad an audience as possible, wherever they may be. We look forward to working with the Library to bring the past to life today.
