Souvenir postcard of Lawrence, Kansas. On the front is an image of a man in a top hat smoking a cigar being escorted by a police officer on either side of him, the police uniforms are colored in blue. On a red background, "I May Stay In This Town Another Month" is printed in white ink. A white border is around the entire image. At the bottom of the postcard "Souvenir of Lawrence, Kan." is printed in black ink. Beneath "month" "or longer" has been written in pen. Towards the bottom of the image "I am as ever J.J.I. 1328 Tennessee St." is also written in black ink. On the back is the address for Miss Emma Aschman in Inman, Kansas. Postmarked November 3, 1906. Information on when and where the postcard was acquired is on the back, 7/18/1999 from Denver PS.

Are having some very pleasant weather. E.C." is written in black ink. On the back a note is written to Mrs. Fred P. Shepard in Kansas City, Kansas, from Emma in Lawrence, Kansas. Postmarked October 6, 1907. Note: Ufton Court was the home of Lucius H. Perkins and built in the spring of 1907. John G. Haskell was hired to create the design of the house. House is no longer in existence, but the location was listed at 1004 Elliott Street (Intersection of 4th and Maine Street).

Geo. Innes' Residence Lawrence, Kansas. A. Lawrence Photo." printed in white ink. A white border is around the entire photograph. On the back is information on when the postcard was acquired, 6/24/2001. Note: In the 1905 and 1907 directories the house is listed at 703 Louisiana but it is currently listed as 701 Louisiana. George Innes was married to Eliza and was a co owner of Innes, Bullene, and Hackman at 811-815 Massachusetts Street.

Starting at the right is Mrs. Sarah Jane McCracken Smith (great-grandmother of donor Rosalea Carrtar), the woman in the middle is Mrs. Margaret Usher, the widow of John Palmer Usher (Secretary of Interior under President Abraham Lincoln), and the woman on the left is unknown. The back of the postcard indicates that this was taken at 1429 Tennessee Street, Lawrence, Kansas. A white border is around the entire photograph. On the back is information on who is in the photograph, where it was taken, and when it was possible taken (1910). Note: Though it is under a different address this mansion is now the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house (bought in 1912).

The collection focuses on resources related to the history of Lawrence, Kansas, including scenes of buildings, events, and people in Lawrence, as well as commercial advertisements for businesses located in Lawrence. The collection was loaned to the Lawrence Public Library for scanning and inclusion in the Digital Douglas County History project by Rosalea and Peter Carttar. Scanning and metadata creation for much of the collection was completed by Kylie Hewitt during the summer of 2016.

Postcard with a black and white photograph of the 1100-1200 block of Mississippi on the front. Photograph is from a distance and shows several different houses. At the bottom of the photograph "1100 block Miss St. From Golf links showing cut for paving street." is written in black ink. A black border is at the top and the bottom of the photograph. On the back of the postcard Sally Postma wrote that the location is not the the 1100 block but the 1200 block of Mississippi and that there are only two houses left as of May 22, 1999. Information on when the and where the postcard was acquired is on the back, 5/15/1999 from the Jackson Sale.

This collection is comprised of postcards collected by Lawrence, Kansas, residents Charline Fitzpatrick and her daughter Sally Postma. The collection focuses on resources related to the history of Lawrence, Kansas, including scenes of buildings, events, and people in Lawrence, as well as commercial advertisements for businesses located in Lawrence. The collection was loaned to the Lawrence Public Library for scanning and inclusion in the Digital Douglas County History project by Rosalea and Peter Carttar. Scanning and metadata creation for much of the collection was completed by Kylie Hewitt during the summer of 2016.

Postcard with a black and white photograph of Kentucky Street on the front. Photograph is looking north down the middle of the street from Ninth Street. At the bottom of the photograph "Kentucky Street, Looking North from Warren. Lawrence, Kas." is printed in brown ink. On the back is a note to Miss Minnie Di in Greely, Colorado from Emma in Lawrence, Kansas. Postmarked July 19, 1910. Note: Warren Street is now Ninth Street.
